Department of Wayshrine Access
I play quite a bit of Elder Scrolls Online and read a whole lot of fantasy. Today, I wondered, what if you had to get a license to access wayshrines?
"What do you mean my wayshrine license is suspended?" I sputtered.
"I'm truly sorry, ser, but, if it helps, you're not the only adventurer affected. There's a glitch in the wayshrine system that is rejecting licenses for some reason. The Artificer's guild is working on it," the elf behind the desk replied.
"How long will that take?"
"I'm not sure, ser. But they do assure me it'll be fixed soon." The elf gave me a sympathetic look. "Do you have far to go?"
Exasperated, I said, "Oh, only just all the way across the bloody continent to desert lands that you can only get to by wayshrine! There's no way I'll be getting there in time!"
"I'm sorry. I wish I had more information for you," they said. "There's a really good inn the next street over. Not too badly priced."
"I know that! But I only have so much gold, hence the need to go on a quest to get more!"
"There's always the Adventurer's Guild..."
Raising my eyebrows, I shuddered. "Have you seen the state of the bunk rooms in a Guild hall? And the food isn't that much better!" I took a breath, then said. "Well, after all this, there'd better be some compensation! A year's wayshrine access would be nice!"
"I don't think we can give everyone affected a year's worth of access from the Wayshrine Authority. They might give you a month's worth. If you're lucky."
"Seriously?! With all the gold people are going to lose because they can't access the shrines?"
The elf shrugged. "I'm just a secretary, ser. I can only do so much and I can't do anything until the Artificer's fix the magical glitch. Tell you what, come back in a week, and I'll see if I have an update for you. And if they've fixed the glitch, I'll recharge the magic on your license myself."
Swiping my guild papers and wayshrine license off the counter, I narrowed my eyes at the elf, and said, "Fine!"
"Next!" I heard them call out behind me as I walked away. I cursed under my breath all the way to the Guild Hall.
