"I made haricot," I said.

"What?"

"Stew. With beef."

"Oh! That's great!"

"It has beans, too."

They nodded, continuing to write in their notebook, not really paying attention. "Sounds good."

I left him to his work and went back to the kitchen to clean up. When I was done, I sat down at the table with a cup of tea and a book. An hour later, he came to the kitchen, sniffed the air, and said, "What's for dinner?"

I laughed. "Haricot."

He blinked, then looked contrite. "You already told me, didn't you?"

I nodded.

He sat with me at the table with a sigh. "Sorry about that. I was caught up in my spell book. The King--"

I waved his apology away. "It's fine. I know how you work, my love."

The wizard grinned, but instead of saying anything, he waved his wand. The silvery sparks of his magic swirled in the middle of the table making silvery-white starflowers appear in a lovely glass vase. The sparkling didn't entirely go away, giving off a faint light. "They'll stay good for a year," he said, his smile wide.

I smiled back. "You are amazing!" He knew starflowers were my favorite and hard to get, since they only bloomed for a week every year. I stood, kissed his cheek, and said, "Thank you, love. Now go finish your work so you can eat before you leave for court."

"Yes, dear!" he replied with a little salute and ran back to his study. I sat back down, stared at my flowers for a moment, smiled, and returned to my book.
